Hills Farm Lane Vets 2 – 1 Ferring Youth Vets

Hills Farm again enjoyed home advantage in their second league game of the season and without regulars such as Big D, Big Tommy Burnside, and middle Dan, faced a stern test against the highly rated Anglo-Italians of Ferring Youth. Ferring struggled for players also and initially lined up with just eleven but Super Luigi Maio was persuaded to join the reds and went on to be their star player!
Once again, Hills Farm enjoyed more of the play than the away team from the start but once again fell behind to a fine strike from the edge of the box that curled past keeper Big Matt into the far corner. Hills Farm huffed and puffed but couldn’t get into their rhythm until a moment of madness from the away keeper gifted the home team a penalty and earned the keeper a harsh but fair red card. A beautiful ball out of defence allowed Karim Hamouda to get behind the Ferring back line and he rounded the keeper and prepared to stroke the ball into the net. But the keeper wrapped his arms around the strikers legs like a randy Chihuahua trying for a doggy hump and the ref had no option! Karim himself took the penalty and cooly slotted into the top corner, past the stand in keeper, another gobby Koppite!
In the second half Hills Farm continued to stutter but dominate and really should have been further ahead but the chances went begging. Then a sublime move down the left saw Sean Costello play the ball out to Player Manager Murph who deftly slipped his marker to advance down the flank and curve a lovely ball through the channel to release Karim who, after a bit of a bobble, took the ball around the keeper and this time slotted coolly without hindrance.
Reg replaced Murph on the left immediately and Hills Farm comfortably saw out the game without at any time getting into gear. That would come a few weeks later to devastating effect.
