Goring CC Vets 2-1 Hills Farm Lane Vets - Goring Rec

Just as Leicester City suffered a shock reverse at home versus the Palace Scum on Saturday so Hills Farm were on the receiving end of an unexpected defeat by previously goal less Goring CC.
The latest results have shown how much Goring have improved since the 11-0 mauling by Hills Farm in October and the inclusion of the Ripper brothers made a big difference to this game.
Hills farm were full of confidence and eager to get the match on despite the heavily used pitch but started slowly and disjointed, perhaps due to the unfamiliar back three line up (its NOT rocket science FFS!). With no regular keeper available, Treva Evershed bravely stepped up to the mark but in truth was hardly tested. The game was a tale of “just not our day” as Hills Farm had Goring penned in their half for most of the game but suffered to two goals – one a freak – and just couldn’t hit the net despite a number of good chances. Early on it looked like Hills Farm were heading for a stroll as, after several attacks had gone close, including a long range pearler from Big D, it looke das if the deadlock was broken. A fine in-swinging corner by Gavin was met with power and direction by Karim but the referee decided that the keeper had been fouled. Perhaps he was the only man on the pitch that fought so but the goal was cancelled out anyway.
A fortunate cross floated over heroic keeper Treva for the first goal before a well worked move down the right, where a left back should have been, resulted in an excellent finish by one of the Rippers at the near post - nothing the keeper could do with that! The half ended with Hills Farm in the unaccustomed position of 2 goals down but still confident of a result.
Murph changed the line up to 4-4-2 for the second half and the difference was immediate. Hills farm dominated the second half but the goal just wouldn't come. Grubby finally scored a beauty after some choice words of motivation from Sean Costello.
Several chances fell to Hills Farm lane but in credit to Goring CC they defended extremely doggedly and the improvement to their team paid off with a hard earned victory. Usually deadly strikers, Karim "Benzema" Hamouda and Gavin "Palace scum" Edwards had a rare off day and plans A, B & C didn't come off this time! Still, a feisty but thoroughly enjoyable close game of proper vets footy that the ref did well to keep a handle on.
Lessons to be learned and perhaps the last time Murph will try the 3 men at the back formation.
Merry Christmas Goring CC!
