HFL v Diss United. Friendly. Kick off – 11:00am, Location – Worthing FC
Match Report by Gavin Edwards…as it was definitely his day!
“Today we played one of Trev friendlies on the lovely 3G pitch at Worthing fc.
I was well up for this game and if my 2 shots in the warm up were anything to go by I was sure I was gonna have a good game!
We started slowly with Diss having lots of possession. The as ever reliable captain Tommy in the defence marshalling the team and trying to play out of defence to build attacks. The ever reliable Lordy at left back getting stuck in as always.
Reg on the wing was seeing plenty of the ball and playing some great crosses, just before half time he played a through ball which the defender looked odds on the get but under pressure from the Number 7 he made a mistake and that was all I needed to calmly send the keeper the wrong way, 1-0.
Barely a minute had passed and it was almost a repeat, Reg again playing a ball into the box, it bounced over the defender to the Number 7 who lobbed the keeper first time, celebrating before the ball had even crossed the line,2-0.
Half time
The mighty Trev entered the fray at half time and it wasn’t long before he set the Number 7 up for his hat trick. He did some good play on the wing before passing to the middle where I took on the defender and powered a right foot drive hard and low under the keeper, 3-0.
It didn’t end there…….
Two more through balls, one from Reg and one from Liam ended with powerful right foot strikes. The first inch perfect into the far corner and the other top bins (even Jimmy Bullard would have been proud). 5-0
By now the Diss United defenders were asking if the Number 7 was going to be subbed!
They did manage to get 2 goals back but I don’t really remember much about them for some reason!!
I left the pitch to a standing ovation with 15 mins to go after my step son decided to fall over the football and break his collarbone!!!
Final score 5-2
Overall a great team performance with lots of new comers and a few regulars. Thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day for me.
6 shots, 5 goals!
Not bad for a winger!!!!”
